Götz Hannah's World

Crafted by renown artist Hildegard Günzel, Hannah from the Hannah's World line is easily one of the most beautiful play dolls offered by Götz. Hannah comes in several themes, each offering varying hair styles, eye colors, and accessories.

Hannah at the Spa, Hannah at the Design Studio, Hannah Loves Horseback Riding, and Hannah Happy Birthday come with a brown-haired, browned-eyed version of Hannah with appropriate accessories. Hannah and her Dog offers a ginger Hannah with brown eyes and either a little black or white dog (with hair and wardrobe theme updated each year). Hannah Princess, Hannah Rockstar, and Hannah Loves Hairstyling are blonde and blue-eyed with themed accessories, while Hannah at the ballet comes in blonde, Asian, and African American versions and an additional outfit. Blonde ballet Hannah uses the standard model, while the ethnic Hannahs use a different face mold.

Another variation on the Hannah ballet theme comes in the form of Götz doll Tess. Tess was actually sold by FAO Schwartz through Toys R Us, rounding out FAO's Classic line of playdolls (which includes Claudia, Nina, and Avery as part of the collection). Meanwhile Sarah is a classic Götz doll available in several themes including one whose "Sarah at the Ballet" version looks fairly identical to the Hannah version. Tess, like ballet Hannah, comes with blonde hair in a high ponytail with bangs/fringe, inset blue eyes,  and an assortment of ballet tutus and accessories. Ballet Sarah is similar, though the fashion designs may vary.

Sarah is interesting in that she is actually the early version of Hannah, and she can also be found with brunette or red hair, and other stylish themes besides ballet. Götz Sarah can also be found with different hair/eye color combinations than Hannah, such as red hair with blue eyes, as well as a curly-haired version, which makes certain Sarah dolls somewhat rare and coveted. Hannah also has a number of other iterations, among them Anna, Tiffany, Jasmine, Lili, Emily, Claire, and Franja. There are also "boy Hannahs" as well, Bavarian-themed Peter and Johann. There are likely other Hannah incarnations too -- no doubt Götz has made ample use of this beautiful model.

Unlike American Girl's cloth and vinyl body, Hannah's body is completely vinyl. Her head and limbs pivot, so that she can be posed with more subtlety and variety than AG dolls, and she was crafted with a slight bend in one knee, allowing her a more lifelike, dynamic stance. She may be slightly more difficult to stand and balance due to this asymmetry, but the solid quality of her design is still very evident. Hannah's soft, high quality, yet durable hair is rooted, not wigged, and it can be washed and even styled with (low) heat according to the Götz web site. It's texture is close to human hair and it stands up well to repeated brushing. Like most later Gotz dolls, Hannah's skin tone is rosier than American Girl.

Hannah comes with medium-long to long hair, with or without bangs/fringe. She has life-like inset eyes, so they won't close when she lies down; even so she has one of the most expressive faces found on 18" fashion dolls, and her sweet, and wistful expression has no doubt contributed to her being one of the best selling of the Götz play dolls.

Hannah stands slightly taller than American Girl dolls at about 19.5" while her vinyl body is significantly slimmer, actually having more in common with slim-bodied dolls such as Carpatina and Magic Attic.  Her arms and legs are longer, and her hands and feet are larger (but more slender). Her head measurements (12") are about the same as AG dolls.

The measurements are approximate. Individual dolls may vary.

That being what it is, Hannah can still share many clothes with AG dolls. Close-fitting Hannah clothes without any "give" or stretch are not likely to fit American Girl, but most (not all) American Girl fashions will fit Hannah adequately. Hannah can also sometimes share clothes with Journey Girls, Carpatina, EuroGirl, Magic Attic dolls, and other slim-bodied playdolls, though they may fit a bit snug in places. No worries, as Götz also offers their own high quality fashionable clothing line geared to fit 17" - 19" sized dolls.

Götz Hannah sells for about $150.00 on both the Götz website and on the secondary market. A used Hannah doll may sell for less, depending on her condition, but Hannah tends to hold her value well even when used.
