First-Borns Part II

Onto Part II of my First-Borns Project. (Again apologies for poor lighting. I had zero% natural sunlight as the skies rained for days!)

So I had fairly good success with my first two First-Borns, English Boy and Punkin Princess (for lack of better names). So I grabbed another four blank heads and got to work on them. Read more about First-Borns Part II

First-Born Customs Part I

Here's what been occupying me for the last couple of weeks: I had a whole lot of blank doll heads that needed some love and they weren't going away. Previously I had been focusing on cleaning up and restoring some TLC dolls I had picked up on eBay, listing them, selling, and trying to create some working space for myself! LRC Fant'sy Frock in the Works

I got to painting my custom dolls when I realized I didn't have all the colors I needed. Apparently I thought I could paint the brows and lashes with flesh colors too! So after playing around with some blush and lip color, I set the heads aside and I ordered some more paints in the right colors.

They won't be here for a week maybe, so in the meantime, I started working on a new pattern, a fantasy-type frock. It will be perfect for a witch dress, and just in time for Halloween! Read more about LRC Fant'sy Frock in the Works

Cloth Body Progress - Dying to Match

Dye results: I had to mix three dyes to get the right shade of cloth to match two colors of vinyl. It's a crazy guessing game!

But I got better as I went along. I did the lighter color first--not too bad. But I got a bit closer to the vinyl color on the second. In fact I'd say it's a nearly perfect match! They look great, pretty close, and I learned a bit about dying cloth. Read more about Cloth Body Progress - Dying to Match

Coming to Life

So yeah! I'm pretty happy with my progress on the custom cloth body I've been working on. I have the arms and legs attached now and even inserted the armature to fully test it out.
Some will probably find my headless dancing doll disturbing; all apologies. ;) But it's necessary. Before the head goes on, I have to be sure the rest of the body works as it should--and looks good too, which I think it does. Read more about Coming to Life

Cloth Body Progress - Arms Test

I'm am officially up to my neck in this project. Well, up to the doll's neck I guess. I'm working on the shoulders and arms. ;)

So far I've managed to cobble together a set of working upper arms that don't look too bad actually, and integrate fairly well considering the limits of 3/4 vinyl limbs. Read more about Cloth Body Progress - Arms Test

Crafting a Perfect Body

They say that with a bit of time and dedication you can craft yourself a perfect body. And so it goes for dolls too!

I say this as I'm closing out a very long day of working and reworking my custom doll cloth body pattern. I've been at it for days in fact, but I think I finally got some pattern pieces that will work. Read more about Crafting a Perfect Body
