In part I of my Fixing Cai series, I wrote about some of the more complicated TLC that this 18" My Twinn doll needed, including removing her factory wig glue (with varying success) and minimizing some damage around her eyes.

I think that getting through these tough parts of Cai's repair was largely a success, and I'm very happy with how she has turned out so far.

At this point, Cai's new face paint is essentially done and she's ready for her new eyelashes, so here we go.

What a difference! Cai has really come a long way.

Cai's eyelashes are little bit extra! But I Like them, and they help draw attention away from the imperfections around her eyes.
 

Finally, to polish Cai's look I gave her glossy lips. I love her finished face!

So with that we've arrived at the final step: choosing the wig. This is always the most fun part for me. Different wigs can really create different final impressions.

I decided on this cute Kemper wig for Cai. I felt the long hair and bangs suited her and kind of resembled the wig she arrived in. I planned on straightening it a bit though.

The first thing I did was trim the bangs to make them more even rather than wispy. I felt that worked better with what I'm going for.

Now comes the flat iron part! Because this particular wig can can scorch easily, I made a point of keeping the flat iron at the lowest heat, and then cycled it off and on to keep it a step cooler than that. I once fried a wig just like this, assuming it could handle the same level of heat some other wigs could. This one requires low heat and a lot of patience.

I ran out of daylight in the process, so I got a few flash pictures of my progress. It took about an hour and half to complete.

Then Cai had to patiently wait overnight for her new straight hair to dry.  By next morning she was fabulous!

Working on Cai was a little bit of a challenge, and there was a moment or two where I wasn't sure I'd be able to pull it off! But I'm glad everything turned out ok and that she ended up looking great!

I think Cai's even quite proud of her "scars" now, and wouldn't change a thing; she feels her imperfections give her uniqueness and character. :)

Mini-celebration time: the My Twin project is now halfway done!

Like with Berkeley, I'll need to complete the restoration work on both Kim and Pearl before I can decide on Cai's final clothing, afterwhich I'll update her images. Until then, Cai and Berk can sit and chill while their two friends get their work done.
